Due to current global events, people working in the human services industry, from management and leadership through to on-site care providers, are dealing with added daily challenges that directly impact their personal and team wellbeing, both physically and emotionally. According to Beyond Blue and the Mentally Healthy Workplace Alliance, "poor mental health costs Australian businesses $10.9 billion every year in absenteeism, reduced productivity in the workplace, and compensation claims." Mental health conditions result in around 12 million days of reduced productivity for Australian businesses annually. Conditions common in the human services field include compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, chronic stress, anxiety and burnout. These conditions are often experienced vicariously through colleagues and through the people they serve. They can be 'contagious' and the impact is far-reaching.
The good news is that with just a handful of tools and strategies, this can be prevented. A healthy mind and a wellness-focused workplace are just as important as a healthy body for overall wellbeing. Like physical fitness, you can strengthen your psychological health in lots of small day-to-day ways.

How to encourage self-awareness and ongoing learning around the "Ways to Wellbeing and Healthy Mind" by having authentic conversations around mental and emotional wellbeing with your team members with confidence using a strengths based and preventive approach
Engage in regular "wellbeing check-ins" reflecting on personal and team strengths and challenges around wellbeing using the Self-Care Checklist©
Create a Workplace Wellbeing Action Plan for your team using the "5 Ways to Wellbeing" framework
