2023 is here, and while you may be excited about the year's prospects, sometimes we can't help but have the post-holiday blues sneak up on us. Reestablishing a work routine and balancing our everyday duties can be challenging and overwhelming. So here are a few tips to get you into the work zone!
Start by taking a breath and be proud of yourself; you made it to work. Then, try to revisit your past accomplishments and challenges and reflect on how you overcame them. This may remind you of what you can achieve and facilitate that inner confidence to set new goals for the year ahead. Having a sense of purpose can remind us why we are doing what we are doing.
Next, try to set realistic expectations of yourself within the first week. While it's great to hit the ground running, this can lead to burnout and stress. Don't let the holiday season start to feel like a distant memory. Instead, list your professional goals, tasks, and any outstanding commitments. Planning and prioritising your workload and communicating with your colleagues and manager can alleviate pressure and facilitate support.
Last, let's add a little fun to your schedule. Focus on maintaining a work/life balance, go out for a coffee with a colleague, or plan something you enjoy doing after work or on the weekend. Having something to look forward to can make the day better.
