Whoops, I'm a day late responding to an advertised position. Can I still apply?

Is there anything more frustrating than finding your ideal job posting only to discover you've missed the deadline? Job seekers frequently find themselves in this situation, unsure whether or not it is too late to apply for a job.

Timing

To begin with, grasp the concept of timing. Employers set closing dates for a reason. The most ideal time to apply for a job is within the first week or two following the posting date. In the event that you miss this deadline, it might still be possible and you have nothing to loose!

Just be truthful

Maybe you just saw the job advertisement, or maybe you just started looking for a job that day. Accept responsibility for the delay in your application and, if possible, contact the hiring manager directly to express your interest in the position, sell your experience, and politely request that your application be considered. Demonstrate your commitment to the job opening and to working for the potential employer.

Unfortunately, none of these strategies are guaranteed to work, but they will increase your chances of getting an interview, especially if the position hasn't been filled yet. Regardless of when you applied, you could be the most qualified candidate for the job. Best of luck!
