With Mother's Day fast approaching, it's a great opportunity to encourage creativity and play with children through the act of gift giving.

Most childcare centres and early years Educators will have some excellent ideas on hand, but we thought we'd share a few of our favourites.

1. Homemade Flowers

This is something so easy and can be done in many ways. One of the cutest looking ways is with paper and straws. Colourful paper is easy to come by, but it's even more creative if you can re-use magazine pages, newspapers and anything that can be cut into shape.

Painted handprint and footprint flowers are just as cute as it gives the child the opportunity to get messy! (It's what they are known for best of course!)

2. Mason Jar Photo Frames

Such an easy way to get creative with children and to create a gift that is both thoughtful and useable. Mask out a space in any shape, then have it painted all over in the colours of the child's choosing.

3. Decorated Trinket Bowl

Depending on the material you have available, there is ceramic paint you can get from any craft supplies shop and you can paint directly onto a plate before baking it to set it. Or you can get a terracotta plate and use acrylic paint, set with Mod Podge over the top.

We hope you can create some great artwork with your children ready to surprise mum on her special day!
